The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site, do you want to proceed?

In x-cart and litecommerce*, customers get the following error when trying to check out or log into a secure area: "The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site, do you want to proceed?"

You have an SSL certificate installed, however, X-cart directs customers to pages that result in this error. First find out the full domain name on the certificate. The WWW or lack thereof makes a difference. To do this, find one such error and click "View Certificate", or double-click on the gold lock in your browser bar. The name will be listed there.

To point x-cart to the correct domain name, log into cpanel and click on file manager, then public_html, then your x-cart directory.
Click on the config.php file, and click edit in the upper-right corner of the screen.  If prompted, choose ISO 9959-1 for your encoding.
A new editing screen pops open or opens in a new tab.  Go to that screen. Scroll down until you see this:

$xcart_http_host ="$HTTP_HOST";
$xcart_https_host ="$HTTP_HOST";

You'll just want to edit those so they match the name on your certificate.

If you purchased a certificate for it should say:

or if you purchased the certificate for (without the www) it would look like this:

$xcart_http_host ="";
$xcart_https_host ="".

Then save the changes, close and re-open your browser windows, then try getting to the checkout area of your site again.

*For Litecommerce, the same instructions apply, however the config.php file is in a folder called "etc" , and you'd change these lines:
